Bryce Hoflund rejoins VTIPG

Dr. Bryce Hoflund has joined IPG as a facilitator and subject matter expert and will lead efforts to develop a Food Systems Policy Workgroup. During her time as a Ph.D. student at the Center for Public Administration and Policy at Virginia Tech, Dr. Hoflund worked with IPG as a Graduate Research Assistant and Project Associate. She now is re-joining IPG after moving back to Blacksburg from Nebraska where she was an Associate Professor and the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Nebraska Chair of Health Care Administration and Policy in the School of Public Administration at the University of Nebraska at Omaha.
Dr. Hoflund will facilitate the development of the Food Systems Policy Workgroup which seeks to engage an interdisciplinary group of individuals, within Virginia Tech and in the communities served by Virginia Tech, who are interested in researching food issues and to explore possible projects that can create opportunities for academic publications, applied and translational research, and related sponsored funding. Recognizing that there are strong existing initiatives including the Virginia Tech Center for Food Systems and Community Transformation, and the CLAHS Food Studies program, among other Virginia Tech initiatives, the proposed effort will focus on leveraging and developing public policy and programs to further the aims of interdisciplinary work in addressing food system improvements to the benefit of vulnerable populations.
Dr. Hoflund’s research focuses on food insecurity, food safety regulation, food policy, health care regulation and health policy, network organizations, and network management and leadership. Dr. Hoflund, Dr. Michelle Pautz and Dr. John Jones, coedited Administering and Managing the U.S. Food System: Revisiting Food Policy and Politics (Rowman and Littlefield/Lexington Books, 2021) and The Intersection of Food and Public Health: Current Policy Challenges and Solutions (Routledge, 2018). She has published her work in Administration & Society, Food Studies: An Interdisciplinary Journal, the Journal of Health and Human Services Administration, the Journal of Public Affairs Education, Political Science Quarterly, Public Organization Review, and Regulation & Governance, among others.
While in Nebraska, Dr. Hoflund served as secretary of the board of directors for Community Crops, the UNO Chancellor’s Sustainability Committee, and the Share Our Table Leadership Council where she co-chaired the Share Our Table Work Group 4 (Policy and Advocacy Committee). She was also a Faculty Fellow with the Robert B. Daugherty Water for Food Global Institute located at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
